Several months ago I was the happy recipient of a number of leather samples when a local furniture store discontinued a range of furniture. You might ask your furniture stores for discontinued samples too. Otherwise think old purse, leather coat, belt or even vinyl.
I saw the picture of a leather and silver cuff in a high end fashion magazine and wondered if I could duplicate it. Enter the short can.
I tried tuna, catfood and water chestnut cans but they all had rounded bottoms that crumpled when I tried to open them. A pineapple can was the answer. I used one of those new variety of can openers that separate the top without making a jagged edge. I think it's called a smooth edge can opener.
I measured and cut a strip of leather then glued it onto the can with Liquid Nails glue. Believe it or not, it looks very similar to the high fashion number. High end jewelry from the recycle bin. Who knew?
