Scrappy Eggs

Are you like me? I collect beautiful papers wherever I can. I have drawers full of paper scraps that I can't bear to throw away. I think I've found a way to use and display them this Easter.
I bought a bag of plastic Easter eggs - these are duck egg size. I measured the circumference which was about 6.5 inches and from top to bottom which was about 4.75 inches.
I cut my paper just a bit larger, liberally coated the back of it with white glue then wrapped it around the egg. I cut slits at both ends. I found through trial and error that thinner strips worked better than thick. I tried to make mine about 1/8" wide.
Start at opposite corners and glue strips to the center. Bisect each triangle with strips until you have used them all up and the end is completely covered. Cut the strips shorter to fill, otherwise you will find that you have a big pile of paper at each end.
Your end should look something like this.
Do the same to the other end then gently, but carefully, burnish the wrinkles and folds, first with your fingers and backs of your nails, then if the paper is strong enough, you may want to burnish it with the handles of your scissors or the blade of a table knife.

I glued a ring of 6 eggs together, then glued 4 eggs on top, angled upward. I glued the last egg at the top. Excelsior simulated a nest that I placed it on a rusted urn and put my eggs on top.

Who would know that these were plastic eggs covered with scraps?

These eggs are beautiful! Do you think decorative tissue paper would be too thin? Or, if 2 layers were applied do you think it would work?
I have some 'papers' but I have a really beautiful decorative tissue paper I'd like to use.
Would scrapbooking paper be an option?
Guess I will have too experiment :-)

Thanks for posting this!
