There's nothing like a trip to the dollar store to reboot your creative mojo. I had seen this finished product online and thought it would be fun to replicate. Here goes.
Place the photo between the two halves for a unique photo display. Wouldn't it be fun to do a whole menagerie?
*note- I had the photo laminated at Staples. This helped protect it and reinforce it so it would stand upright without curling over, yet still be thin enough to let the magnets do their thing.
The toy department yielded this sturdy hippo that was perfect for my purposes.
Wrap tape around the middle and cut the critter in half with a saw or sturdy bread knife. Poor guy, he looks like he's in pain.
The dollar store has styrofoam shapes in the craft/flower arranging aisle. This ball was just about the perfect size and shape.
Cut the ball in half with a serrated bread knife. Push two magnets (craft area) into the cut centers until they are flush with the surface. Glue in place with Goop. (automotive department)
Pinch to compress the edges of the styrofoam until they fit into the hippo cavities. Glue in place with Goop. Allow to dry.Place the photo between the two halves for a unique photo display. Wouldn't it be fun to do a whole menagerie?
*note- I had the photo laminated at Staples. This helped protect it and reinforce it so it would stand upright without curling over, yet still be thin enough to let the magnets do their thing.

Funny!
oh! I haven't seen this project!
Now I know what everyone's getting for Christmas this year!
Might even go one step further and use that new Krylon Glitter stuff to paint it!
I love this idea - such a great one! I might have to try it myself...

Wow, that's really creative, and you could even spray paint the animal all one colour for a cohesive look!
